EncounterBats ™
These are cloth covered foam bats that we have manufactured since 1974. Before that we sold a similar product called Batacas, which were made by another company. Over the years from 1974 we have refined the EncounterBats to meet the needs of professional therapists and their clients. EncounterBats are designed to use in confrontational therapy, where two people fight each other. Therefore, great attention has been paid to making them as safe as possible. The cloth cover is soft and nonabrasive. The foam is soft enough to be comfortable, yet firm enough to cushion the handle inside the foam. The handle extends into the foam about half the length of the bat. This leaves the end of the foam flexible to help add to the cushion effect. The handle is surrounded by a padded hand guard to protect your hand, and cushion the blow if you accidentally hit another person.
We pay careful attention to the materials used, and to how they are assembled. Because of this, we offer a one year warranty, and that even includes heavy use in a psych hospital. The red covers are a double-knit polyester cloth that does not run. The handgrip is molded vinyl that is smooth and comfortable.
EncounterBats can be used to have a “fair fight” with two people, or one person can hit a pillow, bed, or a chair. In some situations clients have used them like baby dolls. They have held the bats, and caressed them as one would caress a baby. The EncounterBats come with an instruction sheet with information on proper use and care.
