Our sand tray is made of blue fiberglass and is a practical size for most offices. It is 21" x 27" x 2.5" which is close to the metric size mentioned in many books. Each tray has "feet" that fit into another tray under it, so they can be stacked. This saves space if you have a small office, and are using wet, dry, or damp sand. The one piece design is leak-proof and also has molded-in edges for easy lifting.

For people just getting started, we think the best over all book is SAND TRAY WORLD PLAY.

These trays are a little smaller than our standard tray, but they are just right if you have to move the tray frequently. For people who work at different schools or different counseling centers, these trays can make your work a lot easier.

The trays are made from a strong, translucent, white plastic. We supply a vinyl coated nylon liner to cover the bottom of the tray for the blue color that most people want. Each tray comes with a cover made of the same plastic as the tray itself. The cover sits on the top edge of the tray and fits into the tray about ¾”. This keeps the cover securely in place during transportation. For added security, you can use bungee cords to hold the top in place. The cover is recessed; so another sandtray can fit into the recess on top of the first tray to save space. The tray has a sturdy lip all the way around the top edge, so you can get a good grip for lifting the tray full of sand – assuming you have no problem lifting 35 to 50 pounds of sand.

SUPER SAND - In 30 vibrant colors
Customers have asked about colored and safer sand for years. Now we have both, in one product. SUPER SAND for safer sandplay. This is the only sand in the world that contains no free silica or free quartz. It molds great when wet (white only), can be washed to remove impurities, and is 100% natural. It's not cheap, because it is expensive to ship due to its weight, but it does help reduce the concerns of safety you might have with regular sand. Unlike regular sand, it is available in 30 nontoxic colors. One and a half to two boxes should fill an average sandtray. The sand is certified AP approved by the Art & Craft Material Institute, conforms to ASTM-D4236, and certified EN71-3 for use in Europe.

We stock white and black sand. Other colors are special order items and take longer to ship.

With the following information you quickly and accurately calculate the amount of sand you need. Each 25 lb box of our sand contains about 450 cubic inches. All you need to do is measure the inside dimensions of your tray as follows:

Rectangular tray: Length x Width x Depth = number of boxes.
                                                    450
Round tray: 3.14159 x radius x radius = number of boxes.
                                        450
Example: The standard tray we sell has inside dimensions of 20'"x 26" x 2"   Allowing for sand 1.75" deep the following applies.

20"x26"x1.75 = 910 =2.02, or two boxes.
    450                 450

If you have a round tray with a diameter of 24" and a sand depth of 1.75".

3.14159x12x12x1.75 = 791.68 = 1.76, or two boxes.

Remember, over a period of time you will lose some sand as it is removed with toys and hands during normal use.
